Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, an anomaly of the heart’s electrical activity. It is caused by a disorganized firing of electrical impulses in the right atrium near the sinoatrial node, the natural pacemaker of the heart.
Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is thought to be responsible for approximately 30% of strokes. 90% of these events could be prevented if diagnosed earlier. ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition can record a clinically validated electrocardiogram and detect signs of atrial fibrillation—a form of arrhythmia that can be damaging to your health if left undiagnosed. ECG readings can be easily shared with your doctor via the Withings app, providing valuable information to help them track your heart health.
When you receive a notification, the app will encourage you to record an ECG. The ECG may not necessarily be classifiable (if your heart rate is high or low), but the results of the ECG may help your doctor diagnose atrial fibrillation. You can view and share your results at any time within the Withings app.
Heart rate and rhythm are measured by the exclusive PPG multi-wavelength sensor, which uses light absorbed by the blood and skin to measure blood flow change in your wrist’s microvascular beds, made up of arterioles, capillaries, and venules.
By default, ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition triggers a measurement from time to time when you are stationary or walking. Note that your heart rate data is regularly transferred to the Withings app where you can see results.
If you have been inactive for at least 10 minutes (also known as a rest period) and ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition detects a heart rate that is high compared to your usual heart rate, you will receive a notification. Similarly, if your heart rate falls below a certain value of beats per minute, ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition will send you a notification. Please note that any slight movement (such as reaching for an object) can 'reset' this rest period. The normal heart rate is between 50 and 100 bpm, but these figures may vary depending on the person. That’s why we make it easy for you to change the high and low heart rate thresholds in the Withings app. You can also turn this feature on and off at any time.
SpO2 stands for peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, an estimate of the amount of oxygen in the blood. More specifically, it is the percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin compared to the total amount of hemoglobin in the blood. It is often considered to be the fifth vital sign, along with pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and body temperature. Hemoglobin is a protein that carries oxygen in the blood to your organs. It is found inside red blood cells and gives them their red color. Once oxygen is in our organs, it acts as the fuel that allows our cells to work.
How is it measured? SpO2 can be measured by pulse oximetry, an indirect, non-invasive method—meaning it does not involve the introduction of instruments into the body. It works by emitting and then absorbing a light wave reflecting the blood vessels, or capillaries, in the wrist. Oxygen-rich blood absorbs infrared light better than oxygen-poor blood. Oxygen-poor blood absorbs red light better than oxygen-rich blood. This is why venous blood is darker than arterial blood. ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition uses a multi-wavelength sensor called PPG (photoplethysmography) sensor that emits and measures red and infrared reflections on the blood vessels in the wrist. The algorithm then compares the reflection at each wavelength to compute the SpO2 value.
For the first time, a health wearable offers your baseline day and night temperature fluctuations, which may indicate the onset of an illness or other health condition, and boost your ability to manage performance and recovery via workout temperature variation zones.
We have combined a breakthrough miniaturized heat-flux sensor with a temperature sensor alongside heart rate and accelerometer input calibration to deliver a best-in-class body temperature variation assessment.
With ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition, optimizing your physical performance is made easier via the workout zones feature. You’ll get key insights into your body temperature as it changes. The three temperature zones have been carefully designated so you can understand and use them to support your well-being: With ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition, optimizing your physical performance is made easier via the workout zones feature. You’ll get key insights into your body temperature as it changes. The three temperature zones have been carefully designated so you can understand and use them to support your well-being:
Warm Up Zone: This is the lowest temperature zone, that’s optimal for preparing your body before starting your workout. Spending the first few minutes in this zone helps to raise your body temperature gradually, priming your muscles for optimal performance.
Performance Zone: This zone is where you should stay for the majority of your workout. It provides ideal conditions for peak muscle performance, allowing you to workout efficiently and achieve better overall results.
Overheating Zone: This zone should be avoided whenever possible. Exercising in this zone can have negative consequences related to overheating — muscle cramps, nausea, headaches, dizziness, confusion, or even loss of consciousness. Ensuring you stay clear of this zone is essential for your well-being while you workout.
If your body temperature reaches the overheating zone, you should immediately slow down your physical activity and allow your body temperature to return to a lower zone, ideally the performance zone or a normal body temperature for you.
With the ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition, you can optimize your performance and recovery time. Your temperature can change periodically while you workout so it’s important to stay on top of your data.
Live updates can show how your body shifts toward various temperature zones, which can give you insights into your regulation and boost performance. It can also keep you informed on your post-workout recovery time which can help you optimize your fitness routines.

Sleep tracking helps you understand your nights and make choices that can improve them. Our proprietary AI has been calibrated with a sleep laboratory in Manheim, Germany and with Beclere Hospital in France, using polysomnography, considered to be the gold standard for sleep analysis.
ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition tracks your sleep cycles (light and deep), sleep duration, interruptions, and time taken to fall asleep and wake up. All data is logged in the Withings app so you can view and analyze your trends over time.
Our exclusive algorithm automatically scores your night based on sleep cycles, duration, regularity, and interruptions.
In addition to analyzing sleep, activating the Respiratory Scan can identify breathing disturbances, and provide an analysis of continuous blood oxygen levels (SpO2), heart rate, motion, and breathing rate.
Punctual measurements of your heart rate at night will help you understand your sleep heart rate, the average heart rate during sleep. It differs from resting heart rate which is a single measurement, usually taken just after waking up.
Because ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition knows if you are in a light or deep stage, it can choose the best time to wake you up according to your schedule. You simply set a wake-up time in the app, and ScanWatch Nova Brilliant Edition will wake you with a light vibration.
